Fly High with Discounted Airline Tickets
Airline travel is back on track! After a series of unfortunate events discouraging people from flying (9/11, SARS, Bird Flu), the skies are filling up again just like before. Based on the statistics of the US Office of Travel and Tourism Industries, the number of travelers in 2004 has risen all over the globe to its year 2000 level, after dipping by as much as 20% from 2001 to 2003. That’s a healthy sign that air travel is again an option on the table. Coupled with the increased airline activity, airline ticket discounts are active again. Here are three sure ways to get an airline ticket discount.
Be Young and Discounted
“Start young,” advices those who succeeded in life, and this applies to all aspects in life, including travel. Refer to the following as guide to non-adult fares:
-Infants from 0 to 2 years of age travel for FREE, as long as they share the seating with the accompanying adult. If an adult is traveling with 2 infants or the infant requires to be seated (using a booster seat), then they get charged a child fare.
-Children ages 3 to 12 are charged 25% off the full adult fare, called child fare. An adult must accompany all children when flying, or necessary permits from Social Welfare must be obtained if the child will be flying alone.
-Students under the age of 25 get discounts, too! Upon presentation of your valid school ID, you can enjoy as much as 40% discount from the full adult fare. Student fare discounts vary among airlines and travel agents, so be sure to shop around before biting the bullet.
Airline Best Deals
If you are loyal to a specific airline, then you may have a chance to enjoy discounted airline tickets or vacation packages by signing up for their newsletter. Typically, airline companies use newsletters to get information about existing and prospective clients. Sometimes, they use it for analyzing consumer’s profiles and travel behavior. If you have the time to fill up their subscription form, and do not mind the regular mails in you Inbox, it can pay to sign up, as they will send you the best deals in return.
Consolidator Discounts
Ever wonder how some travel agents online and offline can offer discounted rates as compared to airline companies. There is a high chance that they are consolidator tickets.
Consolidator companies buy bulk tickets direct from airline companies, then resell them to individuals at a little profit, through travel agents (online and offline). They can anywhere from 10% to 40% off the tickets purchased directly from the airline companies. Well isn’t this foul play for the airlines?
Well, on the surface, it is, but on the bigger scheme of things, it isn’t. You see consolidator tickets are sure sales for the airlines, and they come with restrictions. As opposed to the airline’s unrestricted tickets, consolidator tickets usually are non-refundable, non-endorsable (can be used only by the person named in the ticket) and cannot be rescheduled. Well, “not,” actually means “can, with high penalties.” Changes to consolidator tickets range from $50 to $100. Airline –sold tickets at published rates are ideal for businessmen who need flexibility in their itinerary. But, if you are traveling for leisure, with definite plans, then you should not mind restrictions that come with a consolidator’s discounted airline tickets.
You need not have deep pockets to enjoy air travel. Try the sources above and with discounted airline tickets, you can embrace the skies!
