Canadian Airlines: On its Flight to Success

A huge terrain larger than the United States to some extent is situated in the Northern North America, with its boundary as characterized by the Arctic Ocean on the north, North Atlantic Ocean on the east and North Pacific Ocean on the west.
With its abundant natural resources, lush vegetation, and different kinds of crops, Canada is one of the most preferred places for migration. According to the 2001 statistical reports, Canada is considered as the “9th most popular travel destination” in the world. With these, the Canadian airline industry was said to have contributed almost 2.8% share to the overall “global tourism market.”
As it became an autonomous region in 1867, the Canadian government and its economy had started to flourish. Moreover, after quite some trials and error, the Canadian airline industry started to grow as it strives to contribute to the economical status of Canada.
It was on 1988 when the Canadian Airlines International started its operation to host the air transportation in this country. This was made possible after the minor Canadian airlines such as Pacific Western Airlines, Canadian Pacific Airlines or the Canadian Pacific Air, Eastern Provincial Airways, and Nordair, have started to merge and takeover the airline industry in this place.
From that time on, series of changes took place that made a significant point in the history of the Canadian airline industry. In 1990, the Canadian airlines have started to introduce its series of Boeing airplanes like the Boeing 747-400s, Airbus A320, and the Boeing 767-300.
The Canadian airlines continued to grow on its own as it gradually gained recognition as far as the airline industry is concerned. However, the American Airline has obtained nearly 33% interests in 1995.
After a series of displaying the changes made in the Canadian Airline industry, Air Canada is presently recognized as the country’s “flag carrier airline.” It has its hub in Montreal, Quebec.
The basic purpose of this particular Canadian airline is to provide quality flight schedules and services to both cargo and passengers to more than 160 targets all over the world.
From its humble beginnings, it has long been acclaimed that the commerce of the different Canadian airlines is extremely well guarded. In fact, some statistical reports show that the Canadian government only allows the foreign investors to only own 25% of the Canadian airline businesses.
It was stipulated in the “1995 Open Skies Agreement” together with the United States that the American airlines might transport travelers from any point in the U.S to any part in Canada, provided that the American airlines will not transport passengers within the Canadian territory.
However, the problem that the Canadian airline industry is facing these days could actually start the decline of the industry’s success. This is because the government is considering to allow other airlines to start their routes within the country as long as it will allow the Canadian airlines to do the same.
Nevertheless, as the long debate about the appropriate rules in order to control the different activities of these airlines, most of the Canadian customers contend that as long as these airlines can provide them cheaper airline fares, it will not be an issue.
Given all that, the Canadian airline industry remains to be one of the major air transportations that are flying continuously on schedules over the air. This just goes to show that as this industry persist on increasing its economy by attracting more tourists and foreigners, Canada will surely be on its flight to success.
